WB Simpson & Sons were delighted to be a part of the major redevelopment alongside BAM Construction in one of London’s most remarkable mid-century Grade II listed buildings – Space House London.
Space House, originally designed by George Marsh and Richard Seifert in the 1960s, is an iconic mid-century building which has been sensitively restored and reimagined by Seaforth into a fluid, one-of-a-kind workspace that beautifully retains its original elegance.
We had the pleasure of installing circa 2000m2 20mm Grigio Venato terrazzo to lift lobbies and core WCs, along with 30mm bespoke cut Grigio Venato terrazzo to Space House’s iconic radial tower main reception.
Pre-cast bespoke Breccia Aurora-mix terrazzo partially suspended over a concrete spine to the Kingsway main reception staircase and Level 16 staircase. These 55mm thick treads were reinforced with stainless steel rebar and set into place with the use of cranes. The staircases, alongside the mosaic, were designed to match the existing still-standing original staircases.
We were involved in the manufacture and installation of the bespoke mosaics to the Kingsway Level 8 external terrace as well as the new staircase spines in the Kingsway GF and Tower Level 16. These mosaics were custom-made to match the heritage-listed mosaic originally installed in the 1960s.
