The Tea Factory Birmingham (New BBC Midlands HQ)

Project: The Tea Factory Birmingham ( New BBC Midlands HQ)
Location: Digbeth Birmingham
Contractor: Bam Construction
Designer: Building Design Partnership Ltd (BDP) Birmingham for Stoford Developments Ltd
Completion Date: January 2026

Details:
A full reworking of the old ‘Typhoo Tea’ Factory in the heart of the Digbeth area of Birmingham, a long forgotten industrialised area that is undergoing a long overdue regeneration. The building will be ultimately occupied by the BBC as it relocates from its current Midland headquarters at the Mailbox.

Bam Construction undertook to reinforce the existing structure, re-model and extend as per design criteria all whilst preserving, maintaining, and strengthening the buildings’ historic facade and then complete a Cat A fitout.

WB Simpson & Sons (Midlands) Ltd undertook the supply and installation of over 1000m2 of Mosa tiles (600 x 300 and 200 x 100) to w/cs in the 9nr core areas, changing rooms and shower areas and large format (900 x 900) to the reception area and 2nr Feature Staircases. Extensive background preparation and levelling works as well as the installation of an anti-fracture membrane to the Under Floor Heated areas was also undertaken.

Overbury plc will now undertake a full CAT B fit out of this building ahead of the BBC’s occupation, a project which WBSM have secured the contract supply and install over 600m2 of large format (900 x 900) Mosa tiles as well as wall tiling to Tea Points, Planters and Feature walls.

This will be a building at the heart of the future of the Digbeth area for many years to come and WB Simpson & Sons (Midlands) are proud to have played a part in the saving and regeneration of this historic building.
